Before and After...

Above, an un-restored Grunow model 588, Teledial. A nice radio, but lots of cabinet problems. The radio works but it does have some "issues".

  

Below, this is why I like the Grunow Teledial series. They're well made, and just look at that awesome dial.

Grunow 588 - Teledial #2

April, 2006

Symptoms:

  • Top badly scratched
  • Bass dial and surround badly tarnished
  • Speaker grill cloth damaged
  • Dial hard to turn
  • Radio works 

Mechanical Repair:

  • Stripped cabinet top to bare wood
  • Coated radio cabinet with Old English
  • Painted black trim areas and speaker cutouts
  • Brushed clean chassis
  • Replaced speaker grill cloth
  • Installed felt pads on front knobs
  • Disassembled dial mechanism; cleaned and lubricated
  • Cleaned brass dial and surround; clear coated brass parts 

Electrical Repair:

  • Installed replacement antenna on back of set
  • Soldered loose speaker wire to terminal
  • Installed new dial lamp 

Notes:

  • Bought radio on eBay for $31.00
